Students in grades 6-12 attending public, private, parochial, charter schools or home-schooled in Alameda County are potentially eligible to participate at Synopsys ACSEF.

Student Home Page.

All students in grades 6-12 who are attending school or are homeschooled in Alameda County are potentially eligible to participate at Synopsys ACSEF.

Student Eligibility:

1. See Section 1  in the ACSEF Handbook that will help you determine your eligibility to participate at ACSEF and the next steps you need to take.

*Depending upon your project type or school you attend you may have a project proposal/paperwork deadline of December 13, 2019, to receive ACSEF approval to participate.  READ SECTION 1 CAREFULLY. 

Student Registration:

Registration to Synopsys Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair (ACSEF) is limited to those students that have met the eligibility requirements, supplied paperwork and been approved to participate either through the project proposal submission system or through their school selection process.

Only those students who either received the ACSEF PAPERWORK COMPLETE email from the director OR those who were submitted to ACSEF through a school selection process to participate at ACSEF will receive the REGISTRATION CODE through an email from the fair director Patti Carothers directoracsef@gmail.com allowing them to create a registration dashboard. 

Registration will open late December 2019 and continue until February 16, 2020.  ALL paperwork must be uploaded no later than February 18th 11:59 pm. Except abstract can be submitted up through March 1st

You may also phone our voice mail 925-353-4414 to leave a message following the instructions given in the outgoing message. Leaving a voicemail guarantees a callback - no message = no callback.

Judges: 

Registration is now open for the 2020 science fair.

Please register here at this site. It's free and easy AND we need you on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Your volunteering includes Free parking, a gourmet breakfast & lunch and refreshments throughout your day. But most of all being a judge is the ultimate in giving back to your community and an opportunity to make a positive impact on some really awesome up and coming scientists and engineers!

Our judging coordinator Suzette Takei will be in touch with all of the details involved and an introductory judges preparation packet prior to the fair. Thank you in advance.

Please read below:

If you are volunteering to judge high school projects you must have an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) or a minimum of 5 years experience in the field you select to judge and agree to the Ethics Policies below*.

If you are volunteering to judge middle school projects an advanced degree is recommended but not required providing you have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field you select to judge or are a high school teacher in the field you select to judge and agree to the Ethics Policies below*.

*Synopsys Alameda County Science & Engineering Fair Ethics Policies:

I agree to act in a positive and ethical manner in which each student encountered is treated fairly and respectfully. Privileged information or ideas that are obtained through my attendance at the fair or volunteer service will be kept confidential by me and I will not use such information or ideas nor disclose such information or ideas to third parties. I understand that any information presented by students is the property of the student and will not be shared or discussed in any manner outside of the project or judging rooms, nor profit made from this information.

 

I agree to hold harmless the Alameda County Science & Engineering Fair Association and their directors, employees, agents, volunteers, sponsors, contributors and contractors against any injury, liability, and claims resulting from my participation as a volunteer or judge during the event.


I agree to disclose all conflicts, potential conflicts and perceived conflicts of interest resulting from direct competitive, collaborative or other relationships with any of the students and to recuse myself from specific events/locations/conversations in such circumstances while volunteering or judging.

Furthermore, I acknowledge that I have read and agree to abide by the following harassment policy protecting all Synopsys ACSEF participants and volunteers from harassment and sexual harassment by another Synopsys ACSEF participant or other person for any reason including, but not limited to: age, national origin, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, ancestry and/or veteran status and understand ACSEF responsibility to investigate such claims.

In conclusion, I agree to notify Synopsys ACSEF Director or Assistant Director immediately if I become aware of any circumstance that would potentially compromise my ability to attend the event or fulfill my volunteer duties. directoracsef@gmail.com

Welcome Volunteers and thank you for helping us support the next generation of scientists and engineers!

Volunteers don't just do the work they make it work...it is often heard but we at ACSEF know it to be very true!

We welcome volunteers between the age of 14 to infinity! 

Select as many 3 hour shifts as you can - we certainly can use the help! 

We will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner items, snacks and beverages throughout the day according to the time frame you are with us. 

We will provide a certificate acknowledging the hours you volunteered in case you require it for your work or school verification. 

Please bring $3 in cash for parking. Carpool or take public transit if possible.

Bring Photo ID.
