Welcome to the Synopsys Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair


 ACSEF is affiliated with Broadcom Masters the prestigious national middle school competition, CSEF - CA state science & engineering fair competition, and Regeneron ISEF the international science fair competition.

The projects from ACSEF that are considered by the judges to be of superior quality are eligible to advance to these competitions.

ACSEF Participation General Eligibility

Students in grades 6-12 attending schools located in Alameda County are eligible. 

Students may enter ACSEF independently on their own if their school does NOT hold a science fair.

If the school district DOES hold a science fair, students may enter ACSEF independently on their own without entering their district science fair.

If an individual's school DOES hold a science fair, the student must be selected to enter ACSEF through their school selection process. 

Additional eligibility criteria can be found in the 2022 ACSEF Handbook - available by May 1, 2021.



ACSEF is a nonprofit 501(C)(3)  public charity that runs entirely on donations and grants? 

All board members, including the Founder/Director, are 24/7 unpaid volunteers?

Round 1 

Virtual Judging for Category (1st-4th) and Special Awards (supplied by local, state, national organizations supporting ACSEF)

Q/A interviews with 2 or more judges at a time for a time period of up to 15 minutes per each session*. 

*For planning purposes registered participants will be notified how many judges are assigned to their project and an approximate time frame.

Round 2 List Posted: Students selected by the judges for Round 2 at https://acsef.zfairs.com

Question: What if your project ID and name(s) are not posted?                  

Answer: Round 1 has already determined the category 1st - 4th and Special Awards winners. Round 2 does NOT change the Round 1 result.

Round 2 Judging

Virtual Judging for students being considered for State, National, and International Awards. Q/A Interviews by three or more groups of up to 8 judges per group for a time period of up to 15-20 minutes per group of judges. *** 

***For planning purposes, you will be notified of how many groups of judges you will have.
