Round 2 judging involves those student participants with judging scores allowing them to be considered to represent The ACSEF at the state, national, and international science fair competitions.

The Synopsys ACSEF's Round 2 Judging Format: All judges are divided into 4 LARGE teams of judges. 2 middle school teams and 2 high school teams.

One middle and one high school team will each be composed of judges from each of these categories: Animal/Human Biomedical Sciences,  Energy, Environmental and Earth Sciences, Human and Animal Behavioral sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Plant Sciences.

Likewise, one middle and one high school team will each be composed of judges from each of these categories:  Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Mechanical Engineering and Instruments, Physics and Astronomy, Reaction and Solution Chemistry, Robotics, and Intelligent Machines, and 2 high school teams composed of the same categories as middle school.

Each large team is assigned to check the display, abstract, logbook, and interview the student projects selected for Round 2 within their assigned categories.  Each project could be interviewed by between 20 and 50 judges during Round 2.

Lastly, after the interviews and new scores are tabulated. From these the top middle and high school projects from each of the 4 groups of round two projects are selected for the state, national, and international science fairs.
